Week 16 2015 Weekly Uniform Rankings

Well, at least Color Rush is over.

Colts-Dolphins: IND in blue/white, MIA in white/white. Yawn. A big fat yawn. I can only (nod), say that (nod, z) this one (z, nod, z)...put me (z, z, nod) to slee...(Z Z Z, snore, Z, etc.).. Won't even dignify with a pic.

Texans-Titans: HOU in white/navy, TEN in navy/navy. Whoa. Way too much navy here. a helmet, a jersey, both sets of pants, both sets of socks. 6 of 8 elements in navy? The other 2 in white? Not my cup of tea.

Bengals-Broncos: CIN in white/black, DEN in orange/white. OK, I'll explain, Too much orange. When the Broncos wear the orange jerseys, I am normally in love. When the Bengals wear white over black, I revel in it. But here, orange helmets, orange shoulders (on a white jersey), and orange jerseys all combine forces? I see orange overload. And thus, two otherwise sharp looks combine to fall to the bottom of the wishing well.

Jaguars-Saints: JAX in white/black, NO in black/gold. Even though the Saints did right by wearing gold pants instead of the all black look, it's not enough to keep it from the lower level. Jags somehow need to make to teal stand out more next season.

Rams-Seahawks: STL in white/white, SEA in navy/navy. I'm not sure where to turn here. The Rams don't wear gold pants anymore. The Seahawks won't wear white or gray pants at home anymore. Yet either or would have spruced this encounter so much. At least the Rams stayed away from navy pants, which would have rendered this matchup as a dullard.

Chargers-Raiders: SD in white/navy, OAK in black/silver. The basics, 2015 edition. Chargers with white over navy blending smoothly with the Raiders familiar black over silver. A bit more powder blue would have spiced this up a tad.

Steelers-Ravens: PIT in white/yellow, BAL in black/white. No issues with the Steelers so much, but the Ravens in black over white...well, it's a nice combo, makes purple as a trim color pop a bit, but the Ravens are best in purple as the main uni color. There's just too much black as a primary color these days in the NFL.

Patriots-Jets: NE in white/navy, NYJ in green/white. The colors are nice, different, but quite familiar. Is this a case of "familiarity breeds contempt?" Perhaps. There certainly are worse matchups, even this week.

Cowboys-Bills: DAL in white/mint, BUF in blue/white. A lot of blue, but it is good blue, especially the Bills blue. While my passion for the Bills blue has died down a bit, it is still sweet nectar and beefs up most any opponent's threads. Such is the case with the Cowboys.

Packers-Cardinals: GB in white/yellow, ARI in red/white. Should this be higher? Perhaps. Am I ticked because the Cardinals shelved the red pants for 2015? Perhaps. But I still like this one. Just not as much as I could or should.

Browns-Chiefs: CLE in white/brown, KC in red/white. I like this one. But I just can't get it any higher on the ladder. Great mix of colors; red, orange, brown, yellow. If played earlier in the season when the autumn colors were awash, this might have been at or near the top.

Bears-Buccaneers: CHI in white/navy, TB in red/pewter. Tradition, meet modern. And this is a glorious matchup of color. Red, navy, pewter, orange. The Bucs regular jerseys are busy, to be sure, but coupled with the Bears stark but unique white over navy, it's a Bingo sort of uni goodness.

Giants-Vikings: NYG in white/gray, MIN in purple/white. This game marks the end of a two year stint where the Vikings played home games outdoors. I say that because the purple looks so good in the natural elements. This was a gem. Blue, purple, red, yellow, gray. It's a great meld of color against a very cold night.

Redskins-Eagles: WSH in white/yellow, PHI in green/white. What would have been sweet here would have the Eagles in black pants. Would have been a jolt for sure, but would have made the green a little...flashy? Be that as it may, this matchup is above average.

49ers-Lions: SF in white/gold, DET in honolulu blue/silver. This...just works. A lot of metallic splendor, but done right. Helmets and pants on both squads match and the reds and blues here are a worthy mix.

Panthers-Falcons: CAR in white/white, ATL in red/white. A lot of white to be sure, but the Falcons red and black as well as the Panthers silver, light blue and silver make for visual goodness.

Week 15 2015 Weekly Uniform Ranking and...

16) Cardinals-Eagles: ARI in white/white, PHI in alternate black/black. Just...disappointing. The Cardinals disappoint by shelving their red pants. The Eagles disappoint with the all black get up. This just makes me sad to see.

15) Falcons-Jaguars: ATL in white/white, JAX in black/black. Quoting the horse in a Ren & Stimpy cartoon, "No sir, I don't like it." The starkness of all white and all black does me no happy, happy, joy, joy. True, some nice trim colors of red, teal and gold help some, but not enough for me to utter, "Groovy, man,"

14) Dolphins-Chargers: MIA in whte/white, SD in navy/white. After thrilling us all with the dynamic throwback last week, the Dolphins sadly revert to form with the boring white ensemble against the Chargers in their smart navy over white. Aqua pants, where ever art thou???

13) Titans-Patriots: TEN in white/navy, NE in navy/silver. Mucho navy gravy. Titans could have mustered up the columbia blue pants and this would have improved the matchup. A bit. Both teams have red in their color schematic, but it is mainly an afterthought.

12) Bills-Redskins: BUF in white/white, WSH in burgundy/yellow. A dramatic difference a pair of pants make. For if the Bills had chosen their super blue britches for this encounter, it may have been enough for the head of the class. No, this dull set was chosen and not even the Redskins lovely burgundy over yellow could save this one from the lower level.

11) Lions-Saints: DET in white/silver, NO in black/black. A bit torn am I. Would the Saints have been better off with the gold pants in this game? Would that have made for too much metallic hues? Is the all black too strong a contrast to the Lions rather pallid away colors? I think this all washed out and this game is slotted where it should be. I think the all black set could use some more gold below the belt. Think about it for 2016, Saints.

10) Chiefs-Ravens: KC in white/white, BAL in purple/gold. Yes, gold. Well, this one that threw everybody off kilter. No one expected the Ravens to rock, for the first time ever, gold pants. But they did. Lost in the shuffle was the KC in the white over white combo with red socks. As for purple over gold? The gold pants were fascinating, the pant strip was good, except, the Ravens went with a purple/black/purple stripe pattern, which was unnecessary. It junked the set up a bit. Chiefs in red pants would have pumped this matchup a lot, Alas...

9) Texans-Colts: HOU in white/navy, IND in blue/white. I think I'm being fairly consistent here when I say the key element in this matchup is the red jersey numbers of the Texans. With so much blue, navy and white here, the red numbers pop out positively. But still, this matchup is a bit lacking.

8) Panthers-Giants: CAR in white/white, NYG in blue/gray. A fair to middlin matchup, with blues, blacks, reds and silver/grays involved. Panthers all white set seems to stand out in a good way against the Giants blue over gray mode.

7) Packers-Raiders: GB in white/yellow, OAK in silver/black. This is good, not great, not bad, but good. The Raiders in the black over silver set is at once dullish, yet intimidating. The Packers in white over yellow is blah, yet bright with yellow trimmed in green. It makes for something attractive, yet not eye popping.

6) Broncos-Steelers:  DEN in white/white, PIT in black/yellow. The Broncos rather mundane all white navy trim heavy set is helped a lot by the Steelers spot on black over yellow. Can't really explain, but the Broncos white set works here.

5) Jets-Cowboys: NJ in green/white, DAL in white/mint. A nice and clean matchup. Jets greens play well off the Cowboys blues and silvertones. Nothing fancy, just good honest football unis melding as a good get together.

4) Bears-Vikings: CHI in white/navy, MIN in purple/white. Aaah, the NFC North. The sweet confluence of navy, purple, yellow and orange makes this a visual delight. Tradition and contemporary is a good thing.

3) Browns-Seahawks: CLE in white/white, SEA in navy/navy. Browns in their most conservative set offsets quite well the Seahawks navy abundance. The color elements are sharp here, brown, navy, gray, orange and neon green. Works better than originally thought.

2) Buccaneers-Rams: TB in color rush red/red, STL in color rush yellow/yellow. In the final installment of this season's new-fangled Color Rush, we have the Condiment Bowl, ketchup vs. mustard, Heinz vs. French's, etc. But it was a rather cool display. For the Bucs, a nice red jersey that was actually tamer than their normal red jersey. For the Rams, it was a bit of a fauxback hearkening, the days of the yellow jerseys of the 1950's mashed up with the 1973-1999 era jerseys with the sleeve horns. May not be the best, but one I liked a lot.

1) Bengals-49ers: CIN in white/black, SF in red/gold. Yes, this is the way colors can work. Dazzling display of black, red, orange and gold. I just happen to think this works on a lot of levels. Only flaw for me is the Bengals continuing to wear black socks with the black pants. Otherwise, top level matchup!

Week 14 2015 Weekly Uniform Rankings

16) Titans-Jets: TEN in white.white, NYJ in green/white. Nope, nope, nope. Stop right there. of the eight total color components of this battle, five are white. Titans' helmet, jersey and pants, Jets' helmet and pants. At least one team could have and definitely should have rocked a color element here, namely the pants. I am not amused.

15) Colts-Jaguars: IND in white/white, JAX in black/white. Another team with a really good alternate just wasted. Yes, the Jags have a teal jersey in their closet and this would have been the perfect occasion to bust them out. Instead, the black jersey continues to deaden the nerves. The white pants help, but against the Colts' all whites? Actually, yes. I approve of that. Not enough to lift this one out of the heap.

14) Falcons-Panthers: ATL in white/white, CAR in black/silver. Hmm,,,I just think we needed black pants on one of these teams.  While somewhat dull, the red and light blue trims on the two teams give this matchup just a little verve.

13) Seahawks-Ravens: SEA in white/navy, BAL in purple/black. I love the darkness, but this is a little overkill. Navy pants, black pants, purple jerseys. The Seahawks would have been smart to wear the gray pants here, to avoid the dark dankness.

12) Lions-Rams: DET in white/silver, STL in navy/white. This is a middle of the packer for sure. I normally think the navy over white of the Rams is sharp, but not here. If they still had the gold bottoms, it would have been perfect here. The Lions look stands on its own and bolsters this coupling.

11) Raiders-Broncos: OAK in white/silver, DEN in alternate navy/navy. The Broncs in all navy is just an alternate look these days, and that's a good thing. But while the regular orange tops would have been much better against the Raiders ho-hummish white over silver look, the all-navys hold up surprisingly well. Maybe it's that thick slab of orange on the sides.

10) Steelers-Bengals: PIT in white/yellow, CIN in black/white. AFC North battle where black rules. but the yellow and orange saves the day. Good usage of the colors by both teams. But I'd've cheered more if the Bengals would have rocked a pair of orange socks.

9) Bills-Eagles: BUF in white/blue, PHI in green/white. A little more white than I prefer, but this is a good one. Bills do well to go with the sweet blue trousers, while the Eagles in green juxtapose sweetly against the Bills set.

8) Chargers-Chiefs: SD in white/navy, KC in red/white. Traditional opponents. Chargers navy pants and trim on white jerseys looks pleasing against the Chiefs in the reliable red over white. Nothing fancy, nothing dull, but a fine looking uni matchup.

7) Redskins-Bears: WSH in white/yellow, CHI in navy/white. These go back a long way. But in modern times with modern aesthetics, They look well paired together. A good set of colors, burgundy, navy blue, yellow and orange, make for a nice visual.

6) Saints-Buccaneers: NO in white/black, TB in red/pewter. OK, I should be disgusted by this meeting, instead, I am enchanted. The dull gold of the Saints and the black pants seem to work fabulously against the Bucs red tops and pewter bottoms.

5) Patriots-Texans: NE in white/navy, HOU in alternate red/white. Kept from the top by the Texans' white pants. Still, this meeting delivers. The Texans red is a great antidote to the Pats standard away white over navy, plus I always give style points to games that feature two teams in tri-colors, which this one does (silver/white/navy vs. navy/red/white).

4) Cowboys-Packers: DAL in white/mint, GB in green/yellow. The Cowboys white over mint can get so overbearing, but when it pairs up with that always groovy Packer green over yellow combo, it just looks like the Golden Age of Football. The colors, execution just brims with what a football game should look like, mismatched blues and all.

3) Vikings-Cardinals: MIN in white/purple, ARI in red/white. No Color Rush for this TNF game. It would ave interesting to see what these two would ave been wearing. All purple vs. all red? anyway, the Cardinals are apparently shelving the red pants for 2015. And I suppose, that's a good thing here. The Vikes' purple pants are enough, and both look keen in this encounter.

2) Giants-Dolphins: NYG in white/gray, MIA in throwback aqua/white. What on earth does it take for the Dolphins to get rid of the gross all whites? I guess a prime-time game. This one scores. Dolphins, celebrating their 50th season, wear 1966 era digs. With aqua in full bloom, plus an abundance of sorely missed orange trim. And the Giants with bright blue lids, red trimmed white jerseys, gray pants and red socks make this a delightful color spectacle.

1) 49ers-Browns: SF in white/gold, CLE in alternate orange/brown. Thankfully, the Browns wear what may be the best combo of their bunch. The orange over brown set is a visual treat and the best look so far, and the orange socks accessorize perfectly. Niners comply with the tested but true white over gold, which compliments rather that detract from the matchup.

Week 13 2015 Weekly Uniform Rankings

16) Ravens-Dolphins: BAL in purple/white, MIA in white/white. While the blah Dolphins all white get up scores zero points with me, it does brighten up the Ravens in purple over white.

15) Bengals-Browns: CIN in white/black, CLE in brown/white. Possibly the best combo we could have for this encounter. Good to see the Bengals in white over black, Except for the Browns nasty orange numbers on the brown jersey. That alone lowers the boom on this one.

14) Eagles-Patriots: PHI in white/white, NE in navy/silver. Not a good choice by the Eagles to go all white. Not at all. The green pants would have made this matchup a ton better. So, the Pats navy over silver has to carry the day, and unfortunately, I don't think it can.

13) Broncos-Chargers: DEN in white/white, SD in navy/white. There are teams who look so dynamic in one combo and yet so yawn-inducing in another. Hello, Broncos. Just not excited in this garb. Chargers look pretty fair in the navy over white, but can't pull up the Broncos from the heap on their own.

12) Jaguars-Titans: JAX in white/black, TEN in navy/navy. The all navy look of the Titans seems to be winning the day in Nashville this season. OK, but then the Jags carry it jut a little too far with the black pants.

11) Colts-Steelers: IND in white/white, PIT in black/yellow. The Colts rather plain, generic all white duds somehow, just somehow, bounce surprisingly well off the bright yellow and stark blackness of the Steelers' gear. Not sure how, but this get together pleases me.

10) Chiefs-Raiders: KC in white/white, OAK in black/silver. OK, KC. It was a nice change to see you in the all white look with the red socks, but it's time to go back to what you do best, and that's wear the red pants with your white shirts. Raiders, I know you'll never change the black over silver, and you shouldn't.

9) Panthers-Saints: CAR in white/white, NO in black/black. Sorta fence-sitting on this one. I, for one (maybe the only one?), like the Saints in all black. And I think the matchup overall looks good with the Panthers in their all whites. Maybe the light blue socks on the Panthers salvage this. I'll keep it here.

8) 49ers-Bears: SF in white/gold, CHI in throwback navy/orange. Conservative, yet tasteful. The Bears, in the throwbacks, should teach the Niners a lesson on how to carry out triple sleeve stripes without having to cut off the striping due to the sleeve length, or lack thereof. While I complain about number legibility on the Browns brown jerseys and the Niners horrid all black alternates, it doesn't seem to be a factor on the Bears alternates, at least to me.

7) Seahawks-Vikings: SEA in white/gray, MIN in purple/white. Nice and yet, disappointing. Not from the standard Viking gear at all, but the Seahawks attire. It is welcome to see the Seahawks rock the gray pants for a change, but the gray is really light. Lighter than normal. Here's hoping next season the gray get a little more gray for the Seahawks.

6) Falcons-Buccaneers: ATL in white/white, TB in red/pewter. The Bucs red jerseys are growing on me. Sure, there's a lot of unnecessary baggage on the jerseys, but the brilliant red hue more than makes up for that rot. It even makes the Falcons bland all white set not so bad.

5) Cardinals-Rams: ARI in white/white, STL in throwback blue/yellow. As always the Rams look tough in the bright blue over yellow set. The Cardinals, though, seem to be keeping the red pants in the closet this season. Which is a shame, because if the Cards had busted out the red trousers, this game would likely have been in the medal round.

4) Packers-Lions: GB in white/yellow, DET in honolulu blue/silver. Color rush takes a break after a three week flourish. Instead we see two teams in uniforms that span decades - more or less. And as with most NFC North matchups, they deliver. The Packers bright yellows and the Lions sharp honolulus look good against other.

3) Texans-Bills: HOU in white/navy, BUF in blue/white. Red is just a trim color on both squads, yet it highlights the shades of blue very well. The game carries a rather muted color palette with great execution in terms of logos, striping and pattern.

2) Cowboys-Redskins: DAL in white/mint, WSH in burgundy/yellow. There are long standing games, where, even one as predictable as this one, it still is a reassuring blessing. The Cowboys in standard white over mint looks mighty fine against the Redskins unique burgundy over yellow. Yeah, both uniforms are a cacophony of mixed up hues and striping and piping, but the color schemes are a sweet blend.

1) Jets-Giants: NYJ in white/green, NYG in blue/gray. Oh, yeah. This is the way the intra-New York matchup should look. When the Jets go white over green, it's a snazzy set. Paired up with their Giants brethren in blue over gray and you have yourself a dandy looking game!

Week 12 2015 Weekly uniform rankings

The season's longest weekend.

16) Cardinals-49ers: ARI in white/white, SF in alternate black/black. Niners, please spare us this horror after this season for good. The impossible to read red numbers on a sheet of jet black jersey. The senselessness of the matching black pants. The inability of the Cardinals to salvage some shred of decency by sticking with white pants instead of red. Yucky, yucky, yucky.

15) Dolphins-Jets: MIA in white/white, NYJ in green/white. This would have been the perfect occasion for the Jets to go green over green against the blah all white of the Dolphins. No such luck. Not enough to get me out of bed for this one.

14) Ravens-Browns: BAL in white/black, CLE in brown/orange. Two things save this from the crud-infested bottom of the barrel: 1) The disturbing all black of the Niners, 2) The repeated boredom of the all-white Dolphins. At least the Browns didn't burn the eyes with orange socks in this combo. Still, the nearly unreadable orange numbers on brown plunges this matchup into the depths. Ravens, your white over black combo is waster here.

13) Buccaneers-Colts: TB in white/white, IND in blue/white. Nope. Too much white for me. Had the Bucs worn the pewter pants, I think this would have moved up sharply as the bright blue Colts jerseys would have bounced nicely off the Bucs gritty pewter gear.

12) Saints-Texans: NO in white/gold, HOU in navy/navy. You know, this one doesn't quite work for me. Normally I like the occasional Texans monochrome. They don't do it that often, and it usually plays well. But not this time. The Saints offer pretty good contrast with the white over gold, but I'm just not feeling much love for this matchup.

11) Chargers-Jaguars: SD in white/navy, JAX in black/white. Not sure what to make of this one. Certainly lots of unusual color combintions here. Navy, black, teal, powder blue, yellow, gold. Maybe too many similar shades and not enough true variety in the palette?

10) Panthers-Cowboys: CAR in color rush carolina blue/carolina blue, DAL in color rush white/white. The third installment of the color rush campaign, The Panthers look very sleek in the all carolina blue, but it looks a lot like last week's Titans color rushers. The Cowboys? Well, they love their WAH, so why not acquiesce? And, while the ode to the 1990's white fauxback jerseys are nice, and the pants with the blue/silver/blue striping is clever, the blank all white socks look the whole set ghostly. I just think the Cowboys unis don't work that well here.

9) Raiders-Titans: OAK in white/silver, TEN in navy/white. One of the odd occasions where two rather mundane looking unis combine to make a rather worthwhile matchup. The Raiders rather yawn inducing white over silver combo seems to my eyes sparkle a bit paired up with the Titans good but not great navy over white set. I'm not complaining!

8) Steelers-Seahawks: PIT in white/yellow, SEA in navy/navy, Steelers in the standard with over yellow aways against the Seahawks in the all navy. It just comes across well to these peepers. Traditional versus modern with a good color contrast.

7) Giants-Redskins: NYG in white/gray, WSH in burgundy/yellow. Normally a sharp matchup, but getting a lost in the shuffle with a better than average matchup week. Jaded perhaps, by the frequency of the matchup perhaps, but this pairing will almost never be a bottom feeder.

6) Rams-Bengals: STL in white/navy, CIN in black/white. Good work, teams. Best possible color matchup for this game. Espouses the navy blue of the Rams with the pants and so as not to overcrowd darkness for this matchup, the Bengals wisely go with white trousers. Just the right mix of color and white,

5) Patriots-Broncos: NE in white/navy, DEN in orange/white. A game where navy is not much more than trim, apart from the pants color of the Patriots. This is a well positioned platter of color, orange, silver, navy and red coming together quite smoothly.

4) Bills-Chiefs: BUF in white/blue, KC in red/white. It's tough to put this one as low as I did on the countdown, but this was a week of strong uni matchups. The vividness of the Bills blue is justifiably exposed and pits well against the brilliant Chiefs' red. The trim colors are perfectly muted. Sweet.

3) Eagles-Lions: PHI in white/green, DET in honolulu blue/silver. Boy, I do enjoy this one. Eagles always look sharp in the white over green and the Lions also look dapper in the honolulu blue over silver set. Traditional squads with bright features. A great way to get the turkey dinner started.

2) Vikings-Falcons: MIN in white/purple, ATL in red/white. Maybe the uni designs scream a little much 21st century, but the carry out effect of the colorways mesh wonderfully. A lot of red, a lot of purple, some black and a dash of yellow.

1) Bears-Packers: CHI in white/navy, GB in green/yellow. If you have been a faithful reader of these weekly rankings, you know that this encounter is usually my favorite. It simply scores on all counts, design, tradition, mixture of colors, etc. It just works perfectly and is my idea of what a uni matchup should be.

Week 11 2015 Weekly Uniform Rankings

14) Colts-Falcons: IND in white/white, ATL in red/white. The Falcons nice triple color play (black, red, white) can usually fend off some not so good opponents. Not so much here. The Colts blue trim salvages some pride, but the heavy white dose seems to overwhelm the Falcons look.

13) Bills-Patriots: BUF in white/white, NE in navy/silver. The Bills go with the all white for Monday night and that's a blow for the colorways. What saves this from the bottom? The Bills have some red with the blue and the Colts do not. Pats with the usual navy over silver, and that suffers a bit with the Bills decision to go all snow.

12) Raiders-Lions: OAK in white/silver, DET in honolulu blue/silver. Not sure what could have been done here. Just way too much silver for my taste. The Lions nifty jerseys help a lot or this one would have been shoddy.

11) Bengals-Cardinals: CIN in white/white, ARI in red/white. Hmph. In recent memory, when team that have dark pants in the closet, they usually burst forth for primetime. This time, we could have had at least the Bengals in black pants or the Cardinals in all red, or both. Alas, both chose to go with their (by comparison) white trousers. It's usually right about now that the Cardinals go red below the waist. A great big missed opportunity.

10) Broncos-Bears: DEN in white/white, CHI in navy/white. The Broncos' navy is slightly brighter than the Bears' navy. Orange could have and should have (somehow) been more exposed here. I don't know how, unless the Bears would have gone WAH and then the Broncs could have sported their orange shirts. Never mind.

9) Buccaneers-Eagles: TB in white/white, PHI in green/white. More white than I'd like to see here. Could have had the Bucs in pewter pants and/or the Eagles in green pants. It could have been and yes, should have been better than this.

8) Cowboys-Dolphins: DAL in navy/silver, MIA in white/white. The Bad: The Dolphins in the dreaded all whites that look more and more yawnish with each passing week. The Good: The Cowboys are again forced to wear their so much better than white combo. The snappiness and consistently colored color set of the Cowboys saves this matchup from the bottom drawers.

7) Titans-Jaguars: TEN in color rush columbia blue/columbia blue, JAX in color rush gold/gold. The second installment of the NFL's (and Nike's) color rush campaign features one team in a combo we've mostly seen before (the Titans) and one which we haven't seen before (the Jaguars). Perhaps because the Titans have been down this road before, the focus to me was on the Jaguars' mustard colors. I enjoyed them, and the split black/gold helmet actually worked in this instance. I thought it looked sharp, but the thing that saddened me is that the Jags' once distinctive teal has now been reduced to an afterthought. The Titans all pale blue bounced off nicely. So, not too bad a matchup to these eyes.

6) Redskins-Panthers: WSH in white/yellow, CAR in black/silver. With so much love for the Panthers in all-black, they continue to force feed us with the black over silver. All black would have been splendid against the trusty white over yellow Redskins threads.

5) Jets-Texans: NYJ in white/green, HOU in navy/white. Traditionalists will squawk, but the Jets in green pants salvages a ton of good. It's just the spark needed to offset the Texans in a smart, but rather non-offensive navy over white.

4) 49ers-Seahawks: SF in white/gold, SEA in navy/navy. For this moment in time, I actually like this matchup. Gold and navy dominate, but somehow in my peepers, this make the Niners' red trim pop, in a good way.

3) Rams-Ravens: STL in white/white, BAL in purple/black. With the Ravens busting out a rather spiffy set (purple over black), the Rams play it safe with the all white look. And it does the job. Spotlighting a dark non-monochrome uni while featuring an opponent with a good all white combo.

2) Packers-Vikings: GB in white/yellow, MIN in purple/white. Another great NFC North matchup. Not enough yellow on the Vikes? The Packers yellows will make up for that! Too much green, the Pack will tone it down! The right dollop of purple? The Vikes will oblige!

1) Chiefs-Chargers: KC in white/white, SD in alternate powder blue/white. Had the Chiefs gone with red pants, I would have loved it. Had the Chiefs gone with white pants AND whit socks, I would have heated it. But for the second week running, the Chiefs trot out the old white over white with red socks, and I like it. Paired up with the Chargers in the yummy powder blue tops, it hearkens back to some good old AFL days. Nice work, guys!

Week 10 2015 Weekly Uniform Rankings

14) Dolphins-Eagles: MIA in white/white, PHI in green/white. OK, who is responsible for the DULLphins trotting out all white continuously week after week? The Eagles save this one from total wretchery with the appealing green over white, but not enough to spare the visual misery.

13) Panthers-Titans: CAR in white/white, TEN in navy/navy. Loads of blue here. The Titans again going full navy against the Panthers in full white. The Titans have a smart look in navy over white or even navy over columbia blue. Those chose the all navy set and well, it ain't bad, but it ain't the best, either.

12) Bears-Rams: CHI in white/navy, STL in navy/navy. I like the monochrome a lot, but maybe it's playing itself out a bit. Ulp! Did I really say that? In this case, I think it is. The Rams would have been much better off with the white pants in this game. As it is, with two teams in navy helmets, one in navy jerseys and two in navy pants, it's a Navy heavy matchup that only Annapolis could appreciate.

11) Jaguars-Ravens: JAX in white/black, BAL in purple/white. I'm good with this one. Half and half gold/black helmet with white jerseys with black and teal mixtures, Black lids with bright purple jerseys and black and gold blends. A modern pairing that worked better than expected.

10) Cardinals-Seahawks: ARZ in white/white, SEA in navy/navy. For those wishing for the Seahawks to try a different color pair of pants with the navy, forget it. Like the Dolphins in the all whites, the Seahawks in the all navys is starting to get a bit tired. While it is a great look, the 'Hawks have the ability to mix and match with the best of them, but sadly choose not to. Cardinals could also have helped some by switching to red britches, but chose not to. Sigh.

9) Texans-Bengals: HOU in white/navy, CIN in alternate orange/white, Again, a matchup which is good, but could be better. The Bengals would have looked ferocious with black pants, OK, then perhaps black socks would have been better with the white pants? Texans, really time to go back to the red socks with the navy pants? Oh well. Still better than a lot of other matchups this week.

8) Patriots-Giants: NE in white/navy, NYG in blue/white. The Giants pick the right time to wear the white pants. Take a rather routine matchup into something snazzy. Advice to Big Blue: Try the white pants with the blue jerseys on a full time basis next season.

7) Browns-Steelers: CLE in white/brown, PIT in black/yellow. The first time the storied PIT-CLE rivalry with the 2015 Browns' duds in action. It looks sharp, but points are subtracted because the browns chose brown socks to accessorize their brown pants. Takes away a bit from the matchup.

6) Lions-Packers: DET in white/silver, GB in green/yellow. No complaints by this reporter with this traditional color pairing. silver, honolulu blue with streaks of black against the lovely green and yellow Packer garb. A visual feast.

5) Bills-Jets: BUF in Color Rush red/red, NYJ in Color Rush green/green. In what was easily the most anticipated uniform matchup during the GUD's brief 4½ year history, both teams trotted out specially made unis for what the NFL called the "Color Rush." The Bills from the neck down clad entirely in red, the Jets likewise entirely in kelly green. The first game since the Cowboys and Chiefs met in 2009 in which both teams wore dark jerseys, the teams resembled Christmas decorations gone wild. The Bills, who have featured red as part of their color scheme since 1962, wore it a base color for the first time ever. The Jets, switched shades of green to kelly for the first time since 1997. Certainly a visual jolt unlike anything seen in the NFL in some time. Personally, I think it was worthwhile, but it sends a fear in me that the NFL and outfitter Nike may be headed in a direction that college football has been in for the last decade or so. Namely, a weekly set of different unis. Something we really don't need ever.

4) Chiefs-Broncos: KC in white/white, DEN in orange/white. Ugh, the Chiefs, whose normal white over red combo is so, so visually joyous, decided to go full white, which so, so visually disappointing...but wait. Hold your horses. The Chiefs decide to wear the red socks with this all white monotony? Brilliant! It's a look that KC hasn't worn on a regular basis since 1967?? Couple with the reliable Bronco orange over white and it rocks! Moral: Never overlook what a pair of socks can do to a football uniform!

3) Vikings-Raiders: MIN in white/purple, OAK in black/silver. A case of when one team looks so good they make the other look even better. The Vikings in the dynamic white over purple looks great and couple it with the Raiders mundane but acceptable black on top of silver, it makes for a bit of visual magic.

2) Saints-Redskins: NO in white/black, WSH in burgundy/yellow. When you get two teams with a quintuple of color (gold/white/black/burgundy/yellow), it scores way high in my laundry list. It's what I look for in a pro football game. That's all there is to it.

1) Cowboys-Buccaneers: DAL in blue/silver, TB in white/pewter. The Bucs with the WAH decision and it works nicely. Cowboys wear an outfit in which the colors match somewhat, sharp shiny silver pants, with a sweet deep blue top with a star on each sleeve paired up with the busy Bucs gear in pewter trousers with red socks. I'm pleased by all this.
